Thank you for being patient with us. We know we have had issues with our phones and much more. With this growth, we are short staff. (I know this is a common theme.) In fact if you know anyone looking to work in healthcare and is a warm, wonderful and caring person, have them call our office and speak to Veronica. Tell her you heard about it in the Newsletter here.
Again, thank you for your support and especially your patience. From our family to yours, Dr.s Greenburg and Tong.

Diet changes can improve sleep apnea, even without weight loss
Every night, millions of people lose sleep because of obstructive sleep apnea, a chronic disorder that causes periodic disruptions in nighttime breathing.
But a growing body of research suggests that improving your eating habits by cutting out ultra-processed foods, cutting back on alcohol and increasing your daily steps can reduce symptoms of sleep apnea and potentially even eliminate it.
The findings are important because sleep apnea is one of the most common causes of bad sleep, affecting an estimated 1 in 5 people worldwide. The condition occurs when the muscles in the back of your throat relax and block your airway as you’re sleeping, causing you to stop breathing. These apnea episodes can last for more than 10 seconds and occur many times a night, leading to gasping, snoring and frequent, abrupt awakenings as your body struggles for air.

Sleeping with light pollution linked to diabetes, study says
Sleeping in a room exposed to outdoor artificial light at night may increase the risk of developing diabetes, according to a study of nearly 100,000 Chinese adults.
People who lived in areas of China with high light pollution at night were about 28% more likely to develop diabetes than people who lived in the least polluted areas, according to the study published Tuesday in the journal Diabetologia.

My Exhausted Year in Instagram’s Anti–Sleep Training Rabbit Hole
In late September, professional sleep consultant Chrissy Lawler, known by the Instagram handle the.peaceful.sleeper, livestreamed herself sleep training an infant named Charlotte. According to the posts, the baby—newly 5 months old, but born five weeks early—belonged to a longtime friend, who had taken the rest of her family to Disneyland for the weekend. In the videos, Lawler uses a version of the Ferber method: putting the baby down to cry in a crib for lengthening intervals, before returning to reassure her.

Q: I heard wisdom teeth extractions can cause someone to develop breathing problems. Is there any truth to that? (Tiffany F.)
A: Tiffany, usually that is not an issue, except in situations where third molars/wisdom teeth have been extracted.
That is due to the possible swelling of the surrounding tissues in the back of the mouth that can cause the problem. The other situation that can cause breathing issues is if after an extraction or a tooth is pulled there is an infection.
Infections of the mouth can spread and cause serious problems including breathing. If you have had an extraction and are having breathing problems, you should immediately go to the emergency room at your local hospital.

Q: What do I do if I get sleep paralysis? (Kris T.)
A: Kris, most people need no treatment for sleep paralysis. Treating any underlying conditions such as narcolepsy may help if you are anxious or unable to sleep well. These treatments may include the following:
Improving sleep habits, such as making sure you get six to eight hours of sleep each night.
Using antidepressant medication if it is prescribed to help regulate sleep cycles.
Treating any mental health problems that may contribute to sleep paralysis.
Treating any other sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy or leg cramps.
