"We Treat the Tough Cases"

Jonathan Greenburg, DDS & Michael Tong, DDS
Exclusively Treating Sleep Apnea, Snoring, and CPAP Intolerance

www.SnoreExperts.com

Wow, it has been 4 months to build out our new Suite but we are finally here. Come in and say Hi. We hope you will like our new office.

It has all the latest technology for the most advanced sleep treatment anywhere, including:

  • A new CBCT unit which shows us your airway, mouth, nose and sinuses in 3 dimensions. If you haven’t seen what this machine can do, plan on being amazed.
  • Digital impressions. Yes, it replaces that gooey stuff we have used forever. And it is more accurate, meaning the appliances should fit even better.
  • And we are now able to provide treatment for Vivos. Vivos is a new and exciting treatment option for Sleep Apnea. If this is something you want to find out more about, call our office.

Thank you for being patient with us. We know we have had issues with our phones and much more. With this growth, we are short staff. (I know this is a common theme.) In fact if you know anyone looking to work in healthcare and is a warm, wonderful and caring person, have them call our office and speak to Veronica. Tell her you heard about it in the Newsletter here.

Again, thank you for your support and especially your patience. From our family to yours, Dr.s Greenburg and Tong.

8 reasons why you wake up tired, and how to fix it

You sleep for seven to eight hours almost every night, only to feel unrested through the morning or even most of the day. How could you be following a golden rule of sleep so right, yet feel so wrong?

This discrepancy is often due to a heightened state of sleep inertia, a circadian process that modulates memory, mood, reaction time and alertness upon waking, according to a 2015 study. Some people experience impaired performance and grogginess in this period after first turning off the alarm. The effects of sleep inertia usually go away after 15 to 60 minutes but can last for up to a few hours.

Sleep Science

Which Neurons Go to Sleep First in Humans? fMRI Can Tell

In the last decades, science has taught us that the mammalian brain isn’t always entirely awake or asleep. Dolphins can swim with one hemisphere asleep while the other is alert, and some neurons in sleep-deprived rats can “switch off” while the animals are still awake. In humans, this so-called “local sleep,” in which specific neuronal populations take a nap while the rest of the brain is awake, has been more challenging to study, since the invasive methods used to track it in other mammals cannot be used on people.

Sleep Hacks

11 ways to sleep better in unbearable heat

Thanks to our changing climate, summer means three months of sticky, humid, scorching heat waves that much of our infrastructure is ill-equipped to handle. And even though it cools off a bit at night, falling asleep under a blanket of unrelenting heat is no easy task.

If you have an air conditioning unit at home, you may not have a problem at all. But keeping it breezy all night long can be an expensive waste of energy, so you might want to get your bedroom comfortable with as little help from your AC as possible.

Dream job alert: A mattress company is paying people to sleep

Jackie Trost awoke Monday to a job prospect, one so compelling that within minutes, she’d cobbled together her application: a 15-word sentence and a 29-second video.

Wearing an eye mask that read “Warning: Do Not Disturb, Disturbed Enough Already,” Trost bragged in the video clip about how she had once fallen asleep while standing up and leaning against her shower wall.

“I think I’d be a perfect fit,” she said, cracking a smile.

Q & A

Our readers are invited to email us with their questions!

Q: Is snoring something I should be concerned with? Or is it just a nuisance to my bed partner? (Martin O.)

A: Martin, most people just don't realize how severe snoring impacts their body.

If someone is snoring all night, their REM sleep is being ravaged. Harvard has done a study demonstrating that an individual not getting REM sleep the night before becomes 5x more likely to get into a car wreck the next day.

Not only does negatively it impact their health and immune system, but it does so for their bed partner as well. Not getting proper sleep will cause you and your bed partner to gain weight and additionally make it extremely difficult to go ahead and lose the weight you've gained.
So, yes, even plain snoring that isn't sleep apnea is very serious and needs to be treated.

Q: Does insurance usually cover oral appliance therapy? (Peter L.)

A: Peter, the answer is unfortunately yes and no.

Insurance does cover it, but most dentists are out of network and the out of network deductibles can be 5k to 10k. This means that there would not be coverage for the appliance in most cases. The good news is some dentists are in network with insurance companies and if that is the case, then treatment with an oral appliance is usually covered.
