Many people dread the blaring sound of an alarm clock, signaling the start of a busy workday. Others wish they weren’t already awake and that the sound had actually woken them up.
Waking up many minutes or even hours before the alarm is not a new phenomenon, sleep experts tell CNN, but it can cause people discomfort.
More than a third of Americans get fewer hours of sleep a night than the minimum recommendation of seven hours, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to the National Institutes of Health, studies across the globe show anywhere from 10% to 30% of the population struggles with insomnia, defined as the consistent difficulty falling asleep and the inability to return to sleep after going to bed.

Funny Sleep Puns & Jokes

Some people have nightmares while some have just plain bizarre dreams. Whatever kind of dreamer you are, if you need funny sleep puns and jokes, you’ll never be caught napping again!

That’s because you couldn’t dream of better sleep puns than these. So enjoy them.

Sleep News

Nick Obradovich couldn’t fall asleep, again. And now he was getting grumpy.
It was October 2015, and San Diego was experiencing historically warm fall temperatures in the mid-70s. The normally cool and dry city logged its three warmest October nights on record at the time during an unprecedented heat wave. The area had experienced its warmest October on record at about 7.7 degrees above average.

Sleep Hacks

Falling asleep within the first few minutes of closing your eyes shouldn't be that hard. Nevertheless, it is: One in three Americans have trouble falling asleep at night, according to the National Institute of Health. People may have poor sleep routines or struggle to fall asleep due to issues with chronic pain, nicotine usage, hormonal changes, pregnancy and menopause, medication, sleep apnea, or mental health, according to Keisha Sullivan, a doctor of osteopathic medicine and family medicine and a sleep medicine specialist at Kaiser Permanente in Largo, Maryland.

Highlights

Getting a good night’s sleep on a regular basis is as important as a proper diet and daily exercise, according to the National Institutes of Health. But daily stress and erratic schedules can make getting a proper night’s rest extremely challenging, says neurologist and sleep specialist Dr. W. Christopher Winter.

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."

Snore Experts Customer Spotlight

Name: Steven S.

Age: 44

Years of snoring: 9

Number of snoring products tried: 3

Experience: When I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, I procrastinated for many years and ignored the results of three different sleep tests because I did not want to use a CPAP machine. After realizing how serious my condition was, and feeling exhausted before my day even started, I contacted Dr. Greenburg for help. With his sophisticated equipment he made my sleep apnea appliance. I was excited about wearing it as an alternative to the CPAP. From the very first night I experienced an improvement in my sleeping and even felt rested in the morning. Best of all my wife is finally getting her well deserved sleep! I would never again think of going to sleep without my appliance.

Q: Does smoking make sleep apnea worse? (Miranda Q.)

A: Miranda, if you smoke cigarettes, smoking puts you at a higher risk of developing obstructive sleep apnea and may increase its severity. Studies show that smokers are more likely to have obstructive sleep apnea than nonsmokers and former smokers combined. A habit to kick if you do have obstructive sleep apnea. Cheers!

Q: Would exercise help with my OSA ? (Trent B.)

A: Trent, being overweight is a well-known risk factor for sleep apnea, and previous studies have shown that losing weight may improve the condition.

For a 25% reduction due to weight loss, you actually need to lose about 10% of your body weight. So, yes! Exercise can assist in easing symptoms of OSA, to a degree.
